Ahmedabad, May 12 (ANI) – A disciplined bowling performance by Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) pacers Sakib Hussain, Praful Hinge, and skipper Pat Cummins limited Gujarat Titans (GT) to 168/5 in their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 clash at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Tuesday.

Hussain and Hinge each claimed two wickets, while Cummins chipped in with a crucial dismissal to keep Gujarat’s batting lineup in check after they were asked to bat first.

GT openers Sai Sudharsan and Shubman Gill started the innings, but SRH struck early when Hinge removed Gill for just five runs. Jos Buttler joined Sudharsan but struggled for timing, and Hinge struck again in the final over of the powerplay to send Buttler back for seven off 11 balls, bringing youngster Nishant Sindhu to the crease.

Gujarat Titans ended the powerplay at 34/2 – their lowest powerplay total of the season and also the best powerplay bowling effort by Sunrisers Hyderabad in IPL 2026 so far.

Nishant Sindhu started positively, hitting a six off Nitish Kumar Reddy immediately after the powerplay, but his innings was cut short in the 10th over when Pat Cummins dismissed him. Washington Sundar then joined Sudharsan, and the pair built a crucial partnership, rotating the strike and finding boundaries to rebuild momentum.

Sakib Hussain provided the breakthrough SRH needed by ending the partnership, dismissing Sai Sudharsan for a well-made 61. Jason Holder came in next, but Sundar continued to attack, smashing 18 runs off the 19th over – including two fours and a six off Malinga – to push GT past the 150-run mark.

However, Hussain pulled things back brilliantly in the final over, dismissing Sundar shortly after he reached his half-century, as SRH held GT to 168/5 in their allotted 20 overs. The disciplined effort ensures a competitive target for the Sunrisers in what promises to be a tight contest.
