Yesterday’s match in Andorra was undoubtedly the worst defeat Las Palmas has suffered this season. It wasn’t exactly a surprise result for the Gran Canaria side, who had already endured a similar thrashing in Santander (4-1). However, the team had not conceded five goals in a single game in the Spanish Second Division for 13 years.
The second tier of Spanish football is no stranger to UD Las Palmas. Since leaving the old Segunda División B in 2006, the club has spent 15 of the last 20 seasons (including the current one) in the division where they now find themselves. The only exceptions were two stints in LaLiga: 2015–2018 and 2023–2025.

Las Palmas had not shipped that many goals since a bitter visit to Córdoba. Back on April 27, 2013, with Sergio Lobera at the helm, they lost 5-1 at the Nuevo Arcángel. The lone goal for the islanders came from Chrisantus, while the Andalusian side’s scorers were López Garai, Xisco, Armando, López Silva, and Fede Vico.

Las Palmas coach Luis García said: “We are going to swallow poison after this harsh defeat.”

Kirian apologized to traveling fans: “This is not the image we want to show.”
Las Palmas started that 2013 match with Barbosa; Pignol, Murillo, Deivid, Dani Castellano; Hernán, Nauzet Alemán; Thievy, Tato, Vitolo; and Chrisantus. The game was marked by early red cards for Dani Castellano and Hernán in the 21st and 22nd minutes, respectively. That season, Las Palmas eventually fell in the first round of the playoffs against Almería, who ironically are their next opponents.
The defeat in Andorra brings back painful memories of that day in Córdoba, highlighting a recurring fragility that the team must now address as they look to bounce back.
