Byron Buxton delivered an RBI double in the 11th inning, leading the Minnesota Twins to a 2-1 victory over the host Cleveland Guardians on Saturday night. Both teams managed just two hits in a game that was delayed by rain for two hours and six minutes.
Buxton accounted for all of Minnesota’s offense, opening the game with a solo home run. His double in the top of the 11th brought home automatic runner Matt Wallner from third, breaking the Twins’ three-game losing streak. Minnesota also escaped bases-loaded, one-out threats in the ninth and 10th innings, while Cleveland saw its three-game winning streak come to an end.
Twins reliever Eric Orze (1-1) tossed 1 2/3 scoreless innings, and Luis Garcia worked the 11th for his first save. Guardians right-hander Peyton Pallette (1-2) surrendered one run on one hit and a walk with three strikeouts over two innings.
Both starting pitchers were sharp. Cleveland’s Tanner Bibee allowed just one run—Buxton’s homer—on one hit over six innings, walking two and striking out a season-high nine. Luke Keaschall drew a two-out walk in the fourth to snap Bibee’s streak of 10 consecutive batters retired. For Minnesota, Joe Ryan gave up one run on two hits in six innings, with three walks and five strikeouts.
Kyle Manzardo’s RBI single in the fourth tied the game at 1-1. Jose Ramirez, who singled with one out and stole second, scored on the play. Ryan later worked out of a bases-loaded, one-out jam by striking out Angel Martinez and Austin Hedges.
Buxton’s home run, his 13th of the season, came on a 1-1 cutter from Bibee that cleared the wall in left.
The Twins placed starting pitcher Taj Bradley (4-1, 2.87 ERA) on the 15-day injured list (retroactive to May 6) with pectoral muscle inflammation. Minnesota also recalled right-hander Travis Adams from Triple-A St. Paul. Meanwhile, the Guardians acquired catcher Patrick Bailey from the San Francisco Giants in exchange for left-handed pitching prospect Matt Wilkinson and Cleveland’s Competitive Balance Round A pick (29th overall) in the 2026 draft. The team also optioned catcher Bo Naylor to Triple-A Columbus.
