Two rising stars from the new generation of São Paulo surfing set new records on Monday, during excellent waves at Praia do Borete in Porto de Galinhas, Ipojuca, on the southern coast of Pernambuco. Seventeen-year-old Kailani Renno from Ubatuba posted the highest single-wave score of the day—9.00—at the second stop of the Surf Brasil Pro 2026, while 19-year-old Murillo Coura from São Sebastião recorded the highest heat total, winning his heat with 14.34 points. The women also competed, with highlights including Alexia Monteiro from Rio Grande do Sul, who achieved the women’s day-highs of 7.00 for a single wave and 12.50 total points, and Gabriely Queiroz from Ceará, who defeated six-time Brazilian champion Silvana Lima. The men’s third round will continue on Tuesday.

Murillo Coura was the first to shine on Monday, competing in the fourth heat of the day against Lucas Vicente (Santa Catarina), fellow Paulista Hugo Bomfim, and Kayan Medeiros (Rio Grande do Norte). Murillo broke the Surf Brasil Pro Porto de Galinhas single-wave record with an aerial that earned a 7.77 from the judges, surpassing the 7.00 scored by Rafael Barbosa (RN) on Saturday and Deivid Silva (SP) on Sunday. He added a 6.57 to his 7.77 to achieve the championship’s highest heat total of 14.34 points, eclipsing the 13.33 posted by Alan Jhones (RN) on Saturday. It was Murillo Coura’s second victory at Praia do Borete.
“I’m feeling confident, but I was a bit nervous at the start of the heat,” Murillo Coura admitted. “It was tough to land the aerial in that spot, but then I found the right place and caught good waves to execute the maneuvers. This wind today, for a goofy-footer who throws aerials, is the best combination. Even for regular-footers with backside aerial skills, the wind really helps. I’m stoked to have moved through this heat, and I want to send a kiss to my family, my girlfriend, my father-in-law, and my mother-in-law. That’s it, on to the next.”

Nine heats later, Kailani Renno—son of legendary surfer Zecão de Ubatuba and a member of the Brazilian Junior National Team at the last ISA World Championship in Peru—put on a show. This is his first time competing in events counting toward the Brazilian professional surf title, and he has won both heats he surfed at the Surf Brasil Pro Porto de Galinhas in Ipojuca. On Monday, Kailani found a left-hander that opened up the wall, allowing him to throw three powerful frontside maneuvers and finish with a spinning aerial that earned a 9.00 from the judges.
“That was my first 9.00 in the Brazilian professional championship, and I’m really happy,” said Kailani Renno. “That wave came to me. I did a sick first layback, then a big hit, set up the aerial, launched it, and came back. I prayed a lot to God for that wave, it came, and I made the most of it. I’m super happy to have advanced and especially to have scored a 9.00. It was incredible, and if I had come out of that first alley-oop I threw, I think it would have been another excellent score, but I hit a bump and fell.”
Monday’s birthday boys celebrate advancement
Also celebrating on Monday was the former point-scoring record holder of the Surf Brasil Pro Porto de Galinhas. Alan Jhones (Rio Grande do Norte) was one of the birthday surfers of the day, along with Junior Lagosta (Pernambuco). Both advanced through their heats, with Alan Jhones winning his heat against fellow potiguar Mateus Sena and Ceará’s Marcos Alves TT and Guilherme Lemos. Alan, from Baía Formosa—the same hometown as Olympic champion Italo Ferreira—turned 37 years old and is one of the surfers who have competed in all 22 events under the current Brazilian title management.
